Best of British

Me at the British Museum

Wearing: printed skirt c/o Marks and Spencer, chunky heart necklace from Marks and Spencer, grey t-shirt from H&M (mens’ dept.), grey blazer from Zara, cashmere scarf from street market in Florence, white ToyWatch c/o Selfridges, black tights from Primark, chelsea boots from Topshop, 17 lipstick in ‘Mulled Wine’ from Boots

On Friday evening I visited the British Museum for the first time. My theory was that going on a Friday evening, the one night the museum is open late, would mean a slightly quieter experience – I wasn’t counting on the throngs of tourists that descend on London for a long weekend.

Whilst we spent less time exploring than we’d planned to it was still nice to be able to absorb the atmosphere and take a stroll around the enormous Great Court in the central section of the building. The relatively-new glass ceiling makes the former garden the largest covered public square in Europe, and the stark geometric pattern only enhances the age of the architecture and objects underneath.

We couldn’t stay for long as we had tickets for a comedy gig in Camden later that evening; we ended up sat on the table right in front of the stage so were both bullied at some point, all part of the fun though! I’ll definitely revisit the museum at some point, like the tourist I am. What’s your favourite ‘tourist-y’ thing to do in London?

Jean genie

I worked at River Island several years ago and their staff get a great deal on denim so every 8 weeks I’d buy a pair just for the sake of it and ended up with a great selection in every style and colour imaginable.

As a result I haven’t actually been on the jeans hunt for quite some time however last week, to my horror, I noticed a hole in my Most Favourite Jeans Ever. I can’t bring myself to throw them out but I am planning on customising them once I’ve decided what to do with them (I’m thinking of just slashing them across the knee…?).

But where to find my replacements?! I am currently loving these Firetrap jeans, prices for which start at £36.

I’m particularly a fan of the black skinnies and as printed jeans are something I am lacking I’m keen to introduce a pair to my wardrobe. I’d love to clash these against a brighter pattern or wear with ankle boots and a band t-shirt.

Which pair is your favourite? And do you have any customisation ideas for my old jeans?!

Sunshine and cycling

October summer cycling

Wearing: flower print shirtdress from ASOS, patent leather sandals from Next, Ray Ban Wayfarers via very.co.uk

We’ve had another gorgeous sunny day in London town! This afternoon Chris and I cycled to Selfridges for a quick browse, stuffed our faces at Zizzi, then continued our bike ride all around Hyde Park. It’s not a park I know particularly well having spent most of my time enjoying London’s green space in Regent’s Park, which we’re now lucky enough to live fairly close to.

We probably couldn’t have picked a more perfect day for soaking up Hyde Park’s individual atmosphere. We listened to a couple of people talk at Speaker’s Corner, gasped at the length of the boat hire queue, admired the crazy skillz of the inline skaters and almost ran over a couple of small children who’s parents were letting them run wild (grr).

This has just been one of those perfect weekends. It’s going to hit me hard when the weather turns more October-appropriate in the middle of the week! On the bright side I am looking forward to breaking out the few autumnal purchases I’ve made, in particular my new coat, mittens and snood. Autumn is my favourite season after all!
