On Friday evening I visited the British Museum for the first time. My theory was that going on a Friday evening, the one night the museum is open late, would mean a slightly quieter experience – I wasn’t counting on the throngs of tourists that descend on London for a long weekend.
Whilst we spent less time exploring than we’d planned to it was still nice to be able to absorb the atmosphere and take a stroll around the enormous Great Court in the central section of the building. The relatively-new glass ceiling makes the former garden the largest covered public square in Europe, and the stark geometric pattern only enhances the age of the architecture and objects underneath.
We couldn’t stay for long as we had tickets for a comedy gig in Camden later that evening; we ended up sat on the table right in front of the stage so were both bullied at some point, all part of the fun though! I’ll definitely revisit the museum at some point, like the tourist I am. What’s your favourite ‘tourist-y’ thing to do in London?

Well since I am an actual tourist, I loved jumping on a double decker bus and seeing the city that way. As well as heading down to trafalgar square to see the lions.

I live in the US, but LOVE London! I’ve been a few times, and I still love to just walk around the city, especially along the Thames. I always end up getting lost, but that is the best way to find some of the smaller (but sometimes historically significant) spots in the city.
I wholeheartedly agree, in fact I make an effort never to go down the same street if one that I’ve never walked down before will get me to my destination.
Getting ‘lost’ in London is one of my absolute favourite things to do!
Thankyou so much for the lovely comments. Hugs to you too!
I love the V&A its one of my favourite places and I’m not averse to a little natural history museum either!

What gorgeous pictures! London is always soo manic but I personally think it adds a little charm to the place although when you’re trying to take pictures and move around it doesn’t feel like it ;)

How have I still not been to the British Museum? It looks awesome. I always mean to go when I’m in London but somehow still haven’t been.
I LOVE going to the Wildlife Photography exhibition that on every fall/winter at the Natural History Museum… especially around Christmas when they have an ice-skating rink and market set up outside. That’s my favourite touristy thing to do in London.
